Connecting Your Domain to Hosting via Cloudflare
Want to make your website faster and more secure? Routing your domain traffic through Cloudflare is the best way to achieve this. Here is a step-by-step guide to securely linking your domain to your SastoHost server.
Step 1: Add your domain to Cloudflare
First, you need to create an account and tell Cloudflare which website you want to manage.
- Log in to the Cloudflare Dashboard (or create a new free account).
- Click the Add a Site button at the top of the page.
- Type in your exact website address (e.g., yourdomain.com) and click continue.
- Scroll down, select the Free plan, and proceed.
- Cloudflare will automatically scan for your current DNS records. Review the list for accuracy and click continue.
Step 2: Change your nameservers
Cloudflare will now provide you with two unique nameservers. You must replace your domain registrar's default nameservers with these new ones.
- Log in to the control panel of the company where you registered your domain name.
- Find the DNS Management or Nameserver Settings section.
- Delete the existing nameserver entries entirely.
- Paste in the two new nameservers exactly as provided by Cloudflare.
- Save your changes. Note: DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours to update across the internet.
Step 3: Point Cloudflare to your SastoHost server
Finally, you need to tell Cloudflare exactly where your website files are located by pointing it to your SastoHost server IP address.
- In your Cloudflare dashboard, click on your domain and navigate to the DNS tab on the left-hand menu.
- Click the blue Add record button.
- Create an A Record: Set the Type to A, Name to @, and the IPv4 address to your SastoHost Server IP (found in your welcome email).
- Create a CNAME Record: Click add record again. Set the Type to CNAME, Name to www, and the Target to @.
- Ensure the Proxy status (the orange cloud icon) is toggled ON for both of these records.
- Click Save.
