How to Upload Website Files via cPanel File Manager

While third-party FTP clients like FileZilla are great for massive server transfers, the built-in cPanel File Manager is by far the fastest way to upload, edit, or extract files directly from your web browser. Whether you are installing a new WordPress theme or publishing a custom HTML landing page, here is how to get your files live on your SastoHost server in seconds.

Step 1: Access the File Manager

First, we need to open the file browser application located inside your hosting dashboard.

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. Scroll down to the very first section, typically labeled Files.
  3. Click on the File Manager icon. This will open a new tab in your browser displaying your server's folder structure.

Step 2: Navigate to the Right Directory

Before you upload anything, you must make sure you are placing the files in the correct folder so the internet can actually see them.

  1. Look at the left-hand sidebar containing the list of folders.
  2. Locate and double-click the folder named public_html.
  3. Important Note: The public_html folder is the root directory for your primary domain. Anything uploaded outside of this specific folder will remain completely hidden from your website visitors.

Step 3: Upload and Extract Your Files

Now that you are inside the correct directory, it is time to move your files from your computer to the server.

  1. Click the Upload button located in the top menu bar of the File Manager. A new upload screen will appear.
  2. Click the Select File button and choose the document or image from your computer or simply drag and drop the file directly into the dashed box.
  3. Wait for the progress bar to reach 100% and turn green. Do not close the window while the bar is still blue!
  4. Click the link at the bottom that says Go Back to... to return to your directory.
  5. Pro Tip: If you are uploading a complete website with dozens of files, do not upload them one by one! Compress the entire folder into a single .zip file on your computer, upload the .zip file, right-click it inside the File Manager, and select Extract.
