How to Change Your cPanel Email and Enable Resource Notifications
Keeping your cPanel contact information up to date is crucial for the security and uptime of your SastoHost website. Not only does it ensure you can receive password reset links, but it also allows your server to automatically warn you before your website goes offline due to maxed-out disk space or bandwidth. Here is how to configure your alerts.
Step 1: Access Your Contact Information Settings
First, we need to locate the preferences menu inside your hosting control panel.
- Log in to your cPanel account.
- Click on your username in the top-right corner of the dashboard to open the account dropdown menu.
- Select Contact Information from the list. (Alternatively, you can scroll down to the "Preferences" section on the main cPanel page and click the Contact Information icon).
Step 2: Update Your Email Addresses
This is the destination where cPanel will send all critical server updates, password resets, and account warnings.
- In the first box labeled Enter an email address, type in your primary, everyday email address (like your personal Gmail or professional inbox).
- In the second box, we highly recommend entering a secondary email address. This acts as a reliable backup just in case you ever lose access to your primary inbox.
Step 3: Enable Resource Limit Notifications
Now that your email is set up, you need to tell the server exactly which events should trigger a warning message to your inbox.
- Scroll down to the Contact Preferences section on the same page.
- Check the box next to "My account approaches its disk quota". This alerts you before your storage gets completely full, which prevents your site from crashing.
- Check the box next to "My account approaches its bandwidth usage limit". This helps you monitor high traffic spikes so your site isn't temporarily suspended.
- Review and check any other relevant warning boxes, such as alerts for individual email account quotas or full databases.
- Click the blue Save button at the bottom of the page to apply your new security settings.
