How to Set Up Cloudflare Email Routing

Cloudflare Email Routing allows you to create custom email addresses for your domain (like [email protected]) and automatically forward those messages to your personal inbox, such as Gmail or Outlook. Here is how to set it up quickly.

Step 1: Create your custom address

  1. Log in to your Cloudflare Dashboard and click on your domain.
  2. In the left-hand menu, click on Email and then select Email Routing.
  3. Click the Get Started or Create Address button.
  4. In the Custom address field, type the prefix you want to use (like "info" or "contact").
  5. In the Destination address field, type your personal email address where you want to receive the messages.
  6. Click Create and continue.

Step 2: Verify your personal inbox

Cloudflare needs to confirm that you actually own the destination email address before it starts forwarding messages to it.

  1. Open a new tab and log in to the personal email account you set as the destination.
  2. Look for a verification email from Cloudflare in your inbox.
  3. Open the email and click the Verify email address button inside.

Step 3: Configure your DNS records

Finally, you must update your domain's DNS settings to tell the internet to send your emails through Cloudflare.

  1. Go back to the Cloudflare dashboard. You should now see a prompt to add the necessary DNS records.
  2. Cloudflare will display a list of required MX and TXT records.
  3. If your domain's DNS is already managed by Cloudflare, simply click the Add records automatically button. Cloudflare will apply the changes for you.
  4. If your DNS is managed elsewhere, you will need to copy the provided records and paste them into your domain registrar's DNS settings manually.
